Jumpstart
Jumpstart is a young literacy program that gives preschoolers in underesourced communities the individualized attention they need, so that they will be better prepared for the day they enter kindergarten. This program has quite literally jumpstarted my own life and has sparked a passion for learning along with teaching within my heart. I have been a jumpstart member for two years and it is the best experience I could've ever imagined having while in college. I learn something new about myself every week that I am there and I have never dedicated myself to anything the way that I have with the children and team I work with at Jumpstart.
Session Plan and Routine:
As a Jumpstart member, it is my duty as part of my team to prep our storybooks and center time activities one week prior to the next session. This involves reading over the session plan and core storybook. It is important for me to mark important vocabulary words with sticky notes, so that I can have an enriching session with my team and reading group. Below is a quick overview of what a Jumpstart session looks like. It is very important to be prepared and takes a lot of organization.
